Dogs Gone Wild

You know the saying, “when the cats away the mice will play.”  Well, that is exactly what happened in my house this weekend.  My son and I left for a couple of days to enjoy time with my parents and my husband and fur kids stayed home.  Eating, walking, playing and tackling a minor honey-do list. When I say dogs gone wild…it was really only one dog that went a bit loony and my husband was home the entire time.  Hmmmm…..maybe it wasn’t dogs going wild.  Rather, pack leader not paying attention. 🙂 Abe, our first child succeeded in eating two pieces of strawberry cake with whipped cream icing which he pulled out of the garbage.  It was in the garbage according to my husband…but I suspect that it wasn’t fully in there with the lid closed.  Perhaps on top of or even on the counter waiting to be put in the garbage is more like it.  Abe ended his Labor Day feasting on a wonderful second dinner of a Jimmy John’s gourmet sandwich.  Specifically, a #12 Beach Club, low on mayo and no cucumbers.  This, my husband left on the couch while he answered a work call.  As soon as I pulled in my driveway last night I was met by my husband and the two dogs.  The first words out of my husband’s mouth were, “Abe was so incredibly bad this weekend.”  After learning the details, I do believe Abe was mischievous and my husband might have been laying down on the job.  🙂 Dog trainer needed?  I don’t think so.  Jenn’s dog school was back in session this morning.  And, a power walk and healthy dog food were the only things on the menu.  Everyone is happy and healthy although both hounds look a bit plumper than they were before I left.  And my husband?  We are giving him the day off....

My Good Dogs and Their Kid

I believe at heart, all dogs are good dogs.  Or, at least strive to be good dogs.  There are many dog breeds in the world today and my two fur kids are definitely couture.  They are a melting pot of mixed breeds which make them all the more special to me. Abe is most likely a Labrador Retriever mix and Chico is some combination of Chihuahua and Corgi perhaps.  I did purchase a DNA test (Wisdom Panel) for each of them and will be swabbing their cheeks soon!  Most importantly, they are both dog rescue success stories! Prior to adopting Abe, over eight years ago, my husband and I knew that dog adoption was for us.   Chico, on the other hand, well, he sort of fell into our lap about a year and a half ago… and stayed. Sixteen months ago, we also added another member to our family.  A two legger named Sebastian.  So, I am surrounded by boys and I love it.  They are hilarious and warm my heart with all of their canine and human antics.  Most importantly though, they all love one another.  Sebastian has his face washed by Abe and Chico daily and they thoroughly enjoy flanking his highchair at meal time. Of course, we are extra careful with Abe and Chico.  We ensure that Sebastian doesn’t antagonize them and know when they have had enough baby time.  If you have a new baby on the way, here are a few tips to create a safe environment:  http://www.jennfadal.com/having-a-baby-tips-to-prepare-your-four-legged-child/ And, if you would like a peak into our life with baby and dogs visit:  http://www.jennfadal.com/good-morning/. For now, here is a picture of all my boys…after they opened a box containing a Master Moves Mickey!  ...
